  • Notes on Export To Word

To export to Microsoft Word, click the "Export to Word" button in the list of "actions". To export to a web browser, use "Export to Html". If the action you want is not already enabled in WeSay, you need to run the WeSay Configuration program, go to the Actions list, and enable it for this user.

Note, you can run these actions from the WeSay Configuration Program, too. Just click on the button of the action.

The exported html file will go in the "exports" directory of your WeSay project.

This is a very limited feature, not intended for anything but casual use. It works by transforming the dictionary into HTML. For the Word version, it then asks Word to open that html file. This approach is easy for us, but it has serious limitations. We do not expect that anyone will find this approach adequate for a real dictionary publication, but it may be useful for quick printouts, in situations where you'd can't use Lexique Pro, the "Make PDF Dictionary" action or "Export to Word" action. Here are some known problems and limitations of both html and MS Word exports:

    1. Pictures come out the wrong size, or out of proportion. (MS Word only, not HTML to Internet Explorer or Firefox)
    2. Pictures are not actually embedded in the file; if you move this document to another machine, the pictures will disappear. (This page may be of help if you're able to work with Word macros.) So you'd want to print from the same machine, or print to a PDF document from within Word.
    3. No headers or footers
    4. No page numbering or multiple columns.
    5. Font Styles come through, but not paragraph styles.
    6. Subentries (things that have a 'base' relation to something else) are not exported as subentries of the base entry. They are just listed along with all the other entries.

Question: Does Open Office Writer have the first two limitations?
