Overview
The development teams responsible for FLEx and WeSay envision effortless exchange of data between the two programs. Today, it is not effortless, but most pretty easy. This page will tell you how to do it.
Starting a WeSay Project using existing FLEx project
Starting with WeSay 0.5 (May 2009), when you run the WeSay Config tool, you have the option to "Create Project From FLEx LIFT export".
- In FLEx, use the menu File:Export and select the LIFT export option. When asked where to save it pick somewhere which is easy to remember. You'll need it in the next step.
- Run WeSay Config Tool, choose "Create Project From FLEx LIFT export" from the first screen.
- Click the "..." button and show WeSay where you saved the LIFT export in step 1.
- Give the project a name, and click OK.
Importing changes from WeSay to FLEx 5.4
The file format that WeSay and FLEx use is regularly evolving. At the moment WeSay (version 0.5) uses a newer version of the LIFT file format than FLEx 5.4 does. So to get FLEx 5.4 to read it, WeSay needs to make a copy in the older LIFT format(0.12).
- Open your project in the WeSay Configuration Tool. From the toolbar at the top of the window, choose FieldWorks:Save a copy for FLEx 5.4.
- In FLEx, do a backup in case you don't like what comes in. Use Project Management:Backup/Restore.
- From FLEx, choose File:Import:LIFT. Show FLEx where that file is that you just exported from wesay project.
Note that any deletions made in WeSay will not be noticed by this import process.
Importing changes from WeSay to FLEx 6.0
- In FLEx, do a backup in case you don't like what comes in. Use Project Management:Backup/Restore.
- From FLEx, choose File:Import:LIFT. Show FLEx where your .lift file lives, in its wesay project.
Note that any deletions made in WeSay will not be noticed by this import process.
Importing changes from FLEx to WeSay
- Make a backup of your WeSay project, in case something goes wrong.
- First, merge any changes made in WeSay into FLEx, using the above instructions.
- In FLEx, use the menu File:Export and select the LIFT export option. When asked where to save it, select the .lift file in your WeSay project. You are over-writing this file. That's ok, because in step one you pulled any changes into FLEx.
